Hello Families,

Next week is the last week of school before the winter break. School finishes on Thursday December 19th and students return on Thursday January 9th. Next Thursday is a full day of school.

We will be having a Winter Celebration through song next Wednesday, 18th  at 8:30 am and again on Thursday 19th at 1pm . You are invited to attend either of them.

The students have continued learning multiplication in math and how it connects to division. After the holiday we will begin learning about fractions. In art we have been engaging in seasonal designs. We have been engaged in yoga this week in gym, developing good posture while exercising as well as having fun.

In science the grade 4 /5 students have been focused on building and testing windmills and made connections with real life applications. The grade 3 students concluded their inquiry into buildings and materials by constructing a giant class bridge. There was amazing collaboration and team effort which produced a super structure.

In social studies, we concluded our study of Peru with the grade 3 students summarizing what they had learned and comparing it to Canada. In grade 4 and 5 they continue to learn about Alberta and Canada.

In literacy the grade 3's concluded their writing on Rapunzel by building towers and designing how to help her escape. In grade 4 and 5 the students continued writing their own creation stories after reading traditional tales.

We continue to appreciate you supporting your children to read every day. Please also remind your children to dress appropriately for our changeable weather.

Thank you and have a lovey weekend.

Hello Families,

As many of you know, each of our grades host an event (such as Remembrance Day) or a “celebration of learning” assembly at some time throughout the year. December will be a sharing event around some of the work being done in our music classes. While this is NOTa formal concert, parents are welcome to join us to hear what the students have been working on.

To make sure that we are able to include all of our Kindergarten students, we are having two assemblies, the music will be the same at both.

Wednesday Dec 18 - 8:30-9:20
Thursday Dec 19 - 1:00-1:50

If you will be joining us, please let your child’s teacher know so that we can have enough chairs available.

Thank you,
Mr. Bennett

Hello Families,

It's been a busy first week of December! We welcomed student doctors from the University of Calgary, who presented an interactive session on healthy eating to the whole school. We hope this will encourage the children to be more open to bringing healthy snacks and lunches to school.
In Gym we have moved to dance and yoga, which all the students seem to enjoy.  We have just concluded our work on telling time for now and are re-visiting multiplication and division for the next couple of weeks with some festive math. Our grade 3 students have been reading and writing about Rapunzel; this culminated in a STEM activity where they had to design and build a method to help Rapunzel escape from the tower. Some amazing design and construction took place! The Grade 4 students have been  listening to and writing their own creation  stories. In science the grade 3's have design have designed their own bridges and next week we will collaborate to construct a large bridge in the classroom. The Grade 4s are building windmills using lego, identifying the simple machines in them, and then using wind power to create electricity. The grade 3s continue to learn about Peru  in Social Studies and the importance of llamas and alpacas to the culture and economy. This week they created their own looms and have been weaving some pretty spectacular designs. The grade 4s continue to learn about Alberta asking questions about our province, and are moving towards building a large 3D map. In art we created some holiday tree art and the grade 4 students also got to do some weaving.
With just two weeks to go to the start of our winter break on Thursday December 19th, there will be lots going on in the school. We will be having a couple of winter celebrations through song, which you are welcome to join. Further details to follow.
Next week we will have some fun with the Hand Washing Glo Kit, which is an amazing way to show the children GERMS. As the weather continues to be so changeable and an increasing number of children getting sick, please ensure they wear weather appropriate clothes. Thank you.
Stay warm and have a lovely weekend.
