Weekly News

Hello Families,

I hope everyone continues to stay healthy; thank you to those of you keeping your children home who are not feeling well.  Sadly our Field Trip next week has been cancelled as the Arts Commons has closed all its theatres for the time being. We will hopefully be able to visit again in the future.
I am disappointed not to have the opportunity to meet with you all this week to discuss your child's progress. If you have any questions or concerns, or would just like a quick chat with me, please email and we can arrange a phone conversation.
This week the children began to compile their digital books from their writings on world issues.  They are using Google Docs and can access this at home. They have also learned how to save and share work they are proud of on IRIS, again you can access this from home. In math we continue to focus on money, and in particular adding and subtracting, as well as making change. This has involved re-grouping and respecting place value with the decimal point. Science saw the grade 3s start to design their own zoos, taking into account the habitat needs of different animals. Grade 4 have continued to explore electricity and power.  In social studies, grade 4 have been completing their maps and landforms of Canada, and the grade 3 students examined early forms of writing and communication by Ukrainian people through designing Pyansky Eggs.  In art we are exploring and creating tessellating patterns, and in health, we are discussing which accomplishments we are proud of and how that makes us feel. In gym, we have moved on from badminton to handball.
Next week is a short week; students will finish on Thursday March 19th for Spring Break, returning to school on Monday April 6th.
Thank you, and please stay safe and warm this weekend.
