Hello Families,

There is no school tomorrow as School Conferences will be taking place. If you haven't booked your appointment, please go on-line or call the school, as I would love the opportunity to chat with you about your child's progress.

This week we started listening to the book, 'The One and Only Ivan,' written by Katherine Applegate. We will continue this novel study for the next few week. We conducted research into animals that prefer to live in family groups, as well as animals who lead a solitary existence.

In math we are focused on multiplication and division. Please help your child learn their multiplication tables, as this makes math so much easier for them. We practiced our multiplication and division knowledge through spooky art math.

We have started learning about Waste in Our World in science. In social studies we continue to focus on Alberta and Canada - this week we have been learning how Aboriginal people hunted Buffalo and how they used all the body parts.

In gym we finished our focus on Basketball skills and will be using frisbees next week to practice our throwing and catching skills.

We have been uploading some of our work to IRIS for you to see at home. Take a look at what your child is especially proud of.

Hope to chat to you tonight or tomorrow morning. Have a lovely weekend.

 Hello Families,

This week we have started multiplication and division in math. Please support your child at home to learn their multiplication tables, as this makes it so much easier for them. In Literacy we focused a lot on grammar and spelling this week, as well as writing our own fables as a comic strip. In music we are beginning to research Canadian musicians and will create Slide Presentations to present to the class. Science saw us complete our focus on Wetlands by drawing different wetland animals and writing riddles about them to enhance our knowledge of their features. We discussed immigration in Social Studies and why people came and settled in Canada from many different countries.

We finished creating our travel brochures on animal safaris - they look amazing. Check out your child's IRIS account on-line to see a range of work they have completed and are proud of. We moved on to basketball in gym and are focused on building out fitness level through playing games.

Your child will bring home their password today to ensure they are ready to join an on-line class if we are required to move on-line. Details of how this will work will be forwarded separately to you later today. This is only needed IF we go to on-line schooling.

Parent Conferences will take place next week on Thursday evening and Friday morning. These will be on-line or by phone - you can book your appointment from Monday through the electronic booking system.  If you need an interpreter, please let me know.

There will be no school next Friday, October 30, because of School Conferences.

Please remember to send your child to school with all their winter clothes including hat and gloves. It's been chilly on the playground this week.

Please connect with me if you have and questions, and have a safe and enjoyable weekend.

Hello Families,

Following the long Thanksgiving Weekend, we have had a busy week. We have continued our work on pattern in math as well as in art through designing our own mandalas. In science we discussed organizations such as the World Wildlife Fund, which helps to protect animals and habitats around the world.  We learned about ecosystems and how we need to find a balance between human existence and animals and nature. In social studies, we continue to learn about Canada and its modern history. We are developing tourism brochures through Literacy, showing us how we can be eco-tourists to enjoy the animals on our planet, while protecting them.

We will be moving on from badminton in gym this week, and will hopefully start basketball next week. in math we will be moving on to multiplication.

With the winter weather arriving, can you please make sure your child has inside shoes to change into and warm clothes for when we are outside at recess and lunchtime.

Parent Conferences will take place on-line on October 29-30th. You will be able to book your appointment from Monday October 26th.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to connect with me.

Thank you

Hello Families,

This week we commemorated Orange Shirt Day and remembered all those children who were sent to residential school.

We also remembered the significant contribution made to Canada by Terry Fox. Today we ran in his memory. He was a true Canadian hero.

Our writing and social studies centred on Terry Fox and Orange Shirt Day.

We started to learn about patterns in math, and focused on Tessellation.

In science we learned about the human impact on the wetlands ecosystem.

Today, we were finally able to start using the computers again.

Next Thursday is Open Evening and we will be sending out further details to meet you on-line.

There will be no school next Friday, October 9th and no school on Monday October 12th for Thanksgiving.

Have a lovely weekend.
